Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 13, 2026
Sipp is operated by Hello Sipp LLC ("we", "us", "our"). We respect your privacy and are committed to being transparent about how we collect and use your data. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what we do — and don't do — with it.
What we collect
When you use Sipp we may collect:
- Account info — your email address when you sign up.
- Location — approximate location (ZIP code and city) when you scan a wine shelf, used to look up nearby pricing. Your GPS coordinates are converted to a ZIP code on your device — only the ZIP is sent to our pricing service. Location is only requested with your permission.
- Scan history — photos you take of wine shelves and the AI's extracted readings, used to improve recommendations and review uncertain matches.
- Scan behavior — whether you save a scanned wine, how long you spend viewing it, and whether you add it to your buy list.
- Ratings & saved wines — wines you save and the star ratings you give them, used to personalize future picks.
- Taste preferences — taste tags, occasion tags, and food pairing notes you add to saved wines, used to build your personal taste profile and improve recommendations.
- Usage data — basic interactions (scan counts, recommendations requested) used to power XP, levels, and badges.
- Payment info — if you subscribe to Sipp Premium, payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full credit card details.
How we use your data
- Personalization — your saved wines, ratings, taste tags, and occasion history shape the recommendations and shelf rankings you see.
- Recommendations — meals or occasions you describe are sent to our AI sommelier engine to generate wine pairings.
- Local pricing — your ZIP code is used to find nearby store prices via the Kroger API. No personal data is shared with Kroger.
- Service improvement — anonymized scan data helps us improve label recognition and price intelligence.
- Subscriptions — payment data is used to manage your Sipp Premium subscription via Stripe.
Who we share data with
We share your data only with the following service providers who help us operate Sipp:
- Anthropic — powers wine identification and recommendations via AI.
- Supabase — stores your account and wine data securely.
- Stripe — processes subscription payments.
- Kroger API — used to look up local wine prices. No personal data is shared.
- Vercel — hosts the Sipp application.
We never sell your personal data. We do not share your identity, email, scan history, or ratings with advertisers or data brokers.
What we never do
We never sell your personal data. We do not share your identity, email, scan history, ratings, or taste preferences with advertisers or data brokers. Sipp is ad-free and we intend to keep it that way.
Cookies
Sipp uses essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences such as your most-recent ZIP for the shelf scanner. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site trackers.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be deleted within 30 days. Wine scan photos are not permanently stored.
Your choices
- You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account page.
- You can revoke location permission in your browser or device settings — the scanner still works, just without local pricing.
- You can request a copy of your data or ask us to correct or delete it by emailing privacy@hellosipp.app.
Age requirement
Sipp is intended for users who are 21 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 21. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at privacy@hellosipp.app.
Illinois residents
If you are an Illinois resident, you may have additional rights under the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@hellosipp.app.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice in the app or sending an email to your registered address. Continued use of Sipp after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
